They survived Manticore. They survived angry Ordinaries and a government trying to cover up their mistakes and erase the Transgenic problem. But one soldier's fear of committment, his lack of faith in others and in love, cost the Transgenic nation their freedom and their lives.

A once proud soldier no longer stands tall. This is Alec's story as a slave under Familiar leadership and the lessons he learns in captivity.

A NOTE TO WRITERS
who may be interested in contributing to this series

I am going to post the outline/idea behind this AU series here so that other writers who may be interested in taking a point or few and writing, thus contributing to the series, will know where I'm coming from and what I'm aiming for.

When I first came up with this idea, I'd come to the end of my tether regarding DA fanfiction. I had read so many stories, mostly similar or with oft repeated storylines and it just became so boring and commonplace. I decided that if I was going to continue writing new stories for the fandom, I needed an edge or something different. With that thought in mind, I decided to try and create a darker world. Instead of a life of relative safety within Terminal City with the occasional attack from the Familiars, instead of a happy Max/Alec or Max/Logan relationship, instead of the angsty rollercoaster of emotions and incidents that lead up to a happy ending, I wanted pain and darkness, uncertainty and fear. In other words, I wanted Eidolon.

Eidolon has many definitions, but I particularly like this one:

An eidolon (from Greek eidolon form, shape; a phantom-double of the human form; Latin simulacrum) is the astral double of living beings; the shade or perisprit, the kama-rupa after death before its disintegration. The phantom which can appear under certain conditions to survivors of the deceased.

Loosely translated, I took it to be a death/dark shade/form of Seattle after war with the Familiars. It was the same, yet dark and hopeless for our favourite Transgenics and friends. It became a living nightmare, something that would haunt Alec for the rest of his life. All the more so because he, effectively, caused their world to fall.

So, I present to you, the outline and background for the Eidolon Universe, Eidolon: Seattle after the fall.

(This is still tentative and I am always open to suggestions!)

SPOILERS AHEAD

It's not long after Freak Nation and Terminal City is settling in for a long siege.

The Ordinaries are out for blood - frightened out of their minds that there are 'freaks' loose in the world who can pass as completely human.

The Government is desperate to round them up, cart them off and isolate them from the general population - possibly to make use of the 'supersoldiers' and possibly to terminate them (but considering the worth of each soldier, it's more likely they'd be confined and controlled.)

The Familiars are out to completely eradicate the 'abominations' that are the Transgenics, though even they know there are some exceptions to the rule.

Sandeman Senior has come home to rule the roost. The supposed hatred between Ames White and his father was faked; an illusion to separate the weaker links in the Familiar chain of command. Those who chose to follow Sandeman and his so-called 'reformed ways', were secretly killed off. Sandeman also had access to all the original plans and procedures, treatments and divisions set up within Manticore.

Renfro's parting words to Max had a purpose: to make her curious enough to seek out the man who had created her kind, and called her 'the chosen one'. During the siege, Max and Logan contact Sandeman. This unwittingly breaches the carefully constructed and already shaky security of TC. Sandeman and his people set up the playing field by getting their people in position for world domination.

Milaiina comes to Seattle with her Father and is instructed to find a way to worm herself into the affections of the Second in Command of Terminal City, one X5-494, aka Alec.

Milaiina pulls a '494' by falling in love with her target. She gives him a chance; he blows it. Her people launch an attack on Terminal City, decimating it's numbers and taking select individuals hostage. The rest of Seattle fall shortly after.

With the Transgenics in captivity, the Cult utilises their talents and special abilities to ensure a smooth transition and takeover.

Max was created as half of a special pair: she was meant to be the mate of Ames White and part of a unique breed of Familiar - similar to Thula and her thugly friends, but more specifically designed. White was unaware of her part in all this and when she jumps in front of Logan to save him from a bullet, he kills her.

Max wasn't the only X generation soldier with no junk DNA. X5-494 was another such specimen. It was the only reason he hadn't been terminated after his failed missions. Alec is selected as more than Miilaina's slave; he is chosen to be her mate and she is elevated to higher status than White. White is livid and plans his retribution.

Mia is found in the tropics, living her life out with Dougie Colantonio. She is captured, drugged and convinced to work for the Familiars - Dougie's life and their future (limited) 'freedom' together in exchange for her assistance.

Mia wreaks havoc in Europe and Asia together with other Psy-Ops Transgenics. Monarchies and Goverments across the globe turn on each other and fall.

Familiar rule is harsh and restrictive. Alec and his remaining friends and acquaintances endure much hardship. Alec suffers through the deaths/murders of his first two children with Miilaina. For someone who 'didn't care' he hurt greatly. Milaiina watches him in his pain and begins to rethink her choices.

After years of struggle, Milaiina gives birth to The Third. She finally ends her mistreatment of Alec and he is considered equal to her in all ways. White's hatred of 494 and his fury at being overlooked because of 'one little mistake' (killing his own mate, Max) he attempts assassination of Miilaina.
