I enjoyed this story and Max's reintegration into Manticore. It was nice to see how she dealt with things, watching her bond with the others and continually grow in skill and reputation. Well done.

This is a great AU for season two. The simple, evil elegance of Renfro's plan to play on Max's weakness of getting attached and caring about people to bend her to Manticore's will is a genius plot tool. I was impressed with the character depth and development of the secondary players in Max's unit, and was glad to see you didn't just shunt them off to the side to focus on the established characters of Max and Alec. I also enjoyed the development of the Max and Alec relationship; it was a nice juxtaposition to see a sort of normal relationship progressing in the abnormal setting of Manticore. The vulnerability of Alec when he thought Max had left him while she was on the secret mission for Lydecker was beautifully written, even though it was a small scene it was a poignant and touching turning point for the two.
I am interested to see where you take this story; and can't wait to see if/how Max gets everyone out of Manticore.

When I first stumbled into this story, for some weired reason ch. 15 was the same as ch. 14... maybe some glitch in the net or some such.
Anyway. I like the initial idea and your development of the characters so far. Throwing responsibility at Max and her being guilted into submission... that's so Max. And could somebody please bludgeon Renfro with a shovel? That bitch needs to get her come-uppance fast! Grrr!
Deck being back is great, in all his ambigous glory! You have a great way to write him, I like it.
One of my stray thoughts while reading: what about Josh and the basement-dwellers? Will they show or would that be too many characters to handle?
Well, however you proceed, I'm reading it. Keep up the good work!

Loving Lydecker as always. He's a character I always liked. Nice to see him back in the picture and makes me wonder what's to happen with him around.
Great bonding scene with Alec and Max. Nice to know they can comfort each other.
Now I think my question is: Did they actually win and were heading back when and angry losing team confronted them, or did they just think they won and now they have to duke it out? Either way, I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

heh, I had to bring Lydecker back. He's...such a great mysterious character. I'm sure he has...plans for them. ;)
As for your question: they didn't "win" yet, per se. They completed the mission objective and were heading back to base to officially complete the mission and give a debriefing. Overall, they technically did accomplish the mission, but it wasn't officially documented, which is why their opponents had a chance to intercept them.

Sorry I haven't been back here, reading and reviewing. But it's been a busy few weeks and I haven't had much time to do things just for my own pleasure.
And man, is this story a pleasure! It's great fun to 'watch' Max kick ass like I always knew she could, and to show up Manticore's own with less training and no support. Go Max :D
I like 494/Alec cuz he's still the fun guy I came to love on DA. Still cute, funny, sweet and dispensing with the good advice. He seems like he could be a good friend to have, so I greatly look forward to seeing how their friendship/connection progresses.
I'm up in the air about Brin, but while I'm wary of her I like her. Good writing.

Oh! Forgot about brin being there. It was nice to see the sisters atalking again. Hopefully Max will be able to trust her, she could use another friend.
And, looks like Renfor has indded come up with the perfect plan for keeping Max there. Everything seems to be going according to plan so far. Max's walls are starting to crack, and she even admits to most likely not making it back out into the world now. poor girl. :(

I forget Brin's there from time to time as well. Her story was added on later, after all...so I'm not even sure if Max can trust her! I haven't quite written the ending of her story yet...
Renfro's plan does seem...inescapable...:(

yay! An update! I know you may be discouraged about posting here, since we don't have many commenters yet, but we really do apprecaite it! ;) I'm really enjoying this story, as well, and think i've gotten at ;east a couple of the new kids figured out.
One thing that might possibly help with the designations - is occasionally slipping in the term 'him, her, he or she', when it's obvious who's talking, on who they are talking about. Sometimes I get confused about who's a bot and who's a girl. :)
Anyway - I'm looking forward to more! ;)
