Very well told, OBC. I'm really fond of your keeping the identity of the 'speaker' undisclosed until way later - even though there aren't that many possibilities to begin with. ;-)
Only for Alec to give such a heart-felt and detailed monologue about Max' feelings for Ames, comes as a bit of a surprise to me. Yet, your conclusion is wonderful in the end.
