This story, like its predecesor, draws me in, leaving me with the most disquieting sense of comfort and empathy...and the need to re-evaluate my sanity, which was a bit suspect to begin with.

Ben and Alec have taken their mutual need for an emotionally intimate relationship to new heights, (and abyssal depths), of co-dependency, and I want to go along for the ride. Even if I wind up in the Marianas Trench with them!

I would love to see where this tale leads these characters.

Maybe next we will see, "A Conspiracy of Ravens"?

Nice.  Don't know how I missed this when it first came out.  But very nicely done.  I like the interplay between them, and the comparison with Max was spot on.

Oh. Wow. Damn.

It certainly stands on its own but it is also teasing the hell out of me. It's been a very long time since a story or just a single chapter of a fic has called to me so strongly with a demand for more - more brilliance, more darkness, more uncertainty and goodness knows there is bound to be all of those things in spades when the full story is posted.

It will be posted, right?

I'm awestruck. Kudos.

Author's Response:

*lol* Thank you!

Considering you haven't even read the story preceding this, your compliment just makes me giddy with joy and accomplishment =D

And yes, more is to come. Maybe I'll have time to write during that vacation I mentioned...

*hugs* Thanks again!

Amaranth, that was super! *applauds*

Your gip on how for both brothers blood still is thicker than water really made sense (as a twin myself, I know what I'm talking about).

Ben might pose a threat to Alec in the long run but probably not the way he thinks it might turn out. The other X5's sanity might fail at one point or another but most likely not his sense of family, of brothers. I'm sure he won't sacrefice Alec to His Lady, whatever happens. 494 feels the closeness to his twin, despite what Manticore taught him about his runaway brother - there's no reason in the world Ben should see things differently. And he really seems to care, after all; protecting Alec as best he can. That's not going to fade IMHO.

Wonderful journey through the forrest with Ben and Alec (figuratively as well as literally), offerning a great view on how they discover (and show) their mutual understanding and relationship.

I'm sure his stay in Seattle must seem like a lifetime ago for Alec. Plus, I agree that in an all-out fight, Alec would most likely win over Max, even though she probably never realized because he never cared she took him for weaker. It's to be expected though, that whereas he again submits himself to Ben in much the same way, it makes all the difference because they are twins. An outsider simply cannot understand the bond between them at any rate (but I'm blabbering, sorry). Thus, while Alec again might be the better figher if it ever came down to that, it's very likely he wouldn't want to win that fight.

Anyway, I hope to see more of this later on.

Author's Response:

Thanks! *blushes*

Seeing as I don't have any brothers or sisters myself, I was basically just going whith my own imagination on this. I'm glad I seem to have succeeded in making their feelings (somewhat) believable =)

Actually, I could never quite decide whether or not Alec consciously holds back in his fights with Max or just doesn't apply himself to his fullest abilities, but either way, I find it highly unlikely that Max would be able to win as easily as she does every time they do fight (I mean he has what on her? Ten yrs more training, body mass, height... yeah, highly unlikely).

Anyway, don't worry about the blabbering ;)

I'm glad you liked it!
