As for the update, it should be coming very soon. I just have a lot going on in RL at the moment - particularly house repairs that have already gone a week over their proposed time line! And supervising 5 different men in 5 different rooms is not conducive to working with my muse. Though, to be honest, if I had to write about muscled men, I'd probably exceed beyond my wildest dreams...! *grins*

Ohh nooo! *jumps up and down in chair excitedly* What a way to end the chapter! You tease :-P
Can I just say, I loved it all, but my favourite part was probably the talk between Alec and Axel. Not only because of the revelation that Alec isn't tied to Hailey at all (YAY!!! *is excited*), but because it showed the bond between the two guys, and how much like brothers they really are. I love that you've given someone like that Alec can have in his life in this story, especially after the show killed off Biggs (*sobs*). That conversation was a bit heavy and bittersweet, but I'm glad Axel let Alec know the truth.
I also loved the little bit of understanding between Max and Mole, and as soon as he knew why she was there, he just left her to it XD That's dark but hilarious.
I cannot WAIT for the next chapter! I'm sad to hear the story is ending so soon, but I have no doubt it'll be an awesome journey to the end, so bring it on! :-D
Oh also, I wanted to address something you brought up in your reply to my last review - I just wanted to say, I'm sorry if my, um, over-enthusiasm and fury at Logan and Hailey made you doubt the way you'd written them, and doubt if they were three-dimensional as opposed to just inherently evil, because they are! I think your character development has been really great throughout, for everyone, and even the "baddies" aren't completely evil - I mean, they're still human. It's just, I get too involved and emotionally attached in fics sometimes, so to me it's like "they're evil, they caused major pain for Max and Alec, so they deserve some back." Nothing to do with your writing, I swear!

I really tried toshow that Alec and Axel have a special bond of friendship but I was worried it might not come across in the short scenes they have together. It really warms me to know that the readers can see it and feel it the way I did/do while writing it. Go me! (I have always found writing dialogue and combining them with displays of emotion and action to be a huge challenge for me. I like to think I've grown and learned quite a bit over the years but it's still something that I am never quite sure about) Your words are encouraging and reassuring :)
I loved the little we saw of Biggs and I thought they totally wasted any potential the boy had. It was such a shame. I've tried to incorporate him in various fics for that very reason, and when I don't I try to have others for Alec who might fill that same role if and where possible :) It's why Axel was originally borrowed/loaned from izabelevans in the first place for this story :) She made him such a loveable character that I had to snap him up for my own purposes. (If you aren't familiar with izabelevans' Everyone's Got Secrets, I recommend it!)
Okay, pimping for iz done, moving on :P
I'm also kinda sad that the story is almost at a close but also insanely happy. This fic was never really planned. Originally, The Secret Gift was a standalone with no future but at the behest of many fans, I considered and then developed a plot for a sequel. I actually resented the readers at one point - I know, awful of me! - but I just didn't want to write a sequel. However, after seeing how much people were moved by TSG, I felt that I owed them something in return for their loyalty and wonderful responses. I don't regret the decision to write Deceptions, though I am sorry that it took so long to get this far.
I don't expect to take long before finally finishing this fic and I can only hope it will satify everyone's expectations. It's always heartening to read the comments and the excitement for impending chapter/s :) It's like a drug and I admit to being (mildly) addicted :P
LOL thanks for clarifying your feelings about Hailey and Logan. I understand completely, by the way! I was very angry with them - cursed them dead while plotting hehe, heck, i plotted them dead, too! but well, you'll see where that ended up when I get to it :P - but I did try to keep them human, just horribly flawed. So, anyway, I'm just glad to know that they didn't come across as cardboard cutout characters. That would just so suck.
Anyway, I've got to get some sleep. In fact, I was sleeping but I woke up b/c my neighbor knocked asking buckets - they have a leak! poor people, ugh! - and of course I had to help. Lol. Lucky for her I wasn't sleeping soundly.
Mwah for now! Hope to have another installment for you in the next couple weeks. Wish me luck in the meantime :) Max and Hailey are about to draw claws...

I don't have enough words to describe exactly how I've felt reading this entire story but believe me when I say it was a rollercoaster of emotion. Mostly though, I just feel despair and heartbreak for Max and Alec, and the loss of what could've been, because of pure EVIL actions from Logan and Hailey. I just want to kill them both, seriously. ARGH!
I'm happy that the truth is finally out there now, but I want to see things get into motion, and for Alec and Max to put an end to the whole mess now. Logan and Hailey need serious punishment, for real, and Max and Alec need a happy ending to this, otherwise my heart'll break even further.
With Axel's actions at the end of this chapter, I'm hoping he's worked something out that means Kaie isn't Alec's - PLEASE GOD, IF THERE'S ANY JUSTICE, LET ALEC BE FREE OF THAT BITCH!!!
Awesomely written, I've been on tenterhooks throughout. I absolutely cannot WAIT for a new chapter, I need to know what happens next! Great work.

It really has been a rollercoaster, huh? When I started out with this story I don't think I had planned for it to get quite this emotional and draining. But I wrote the characters as best I could and tried to develop the tension and despair they both felt, so when you said that you felt it so strongly I know that I did my job!
I admit that Logan was an evil bastard in this, but this wasn't for bashing purposes, just so we're clear. I simply used Logan as a plot device because I felt that he wasn't above manipulation to get what he wanted (as was evidenced by certain actions throughout the /canon/ series, particularly season one) and I can also understand how love and fear of loss can warp one's judgments and alter perceptions. Did I want everyone to hate Logan? Yes and no. So it kinda bugs me a bit when people are so furious about him. *bites lip* that's something I didn't manage to convey quite as I'd wished, it seems.
Hailey, on the other hand, is a nasty piece of work, but I tried to make her human, too. Everyone has flaws and faults and not every woman is cut out to be a mother. So I tried to show her as caring - to an extent (she couldn't abort the child from the start, and she felt bad for yelling at Kaie later) but not being overly concerned as long as someone was looking out for him (in instances where she left him with Mena and Axel.) I wonder if I succeeded there in making her seem like a flawed person but not inherently evil?
*sigh*
So, that, said, I don't plan to make a big show of punishing the two evildoers - remember, Alec has done some damage to Logan's operations already. But,..well, you'll have to tell me what you think when we get to the end!!
Well, I will assure you that things will not always be so bad for Alec and Max. And that I have not abandoned the fic - in fact, the next chapter is awaiting my beta, so it shouldn't be long! Thank you for the lovely compliments about my writing. I only hope I don't disappoint with the next chapter and the ending (it's not long to go now - 3 more installments, I believe.) Keep an eye out for the next update - it should be a few days away :)
