Takes place right after Love Among The Runes.  This is kind of AU since it doesn't match back up with FN, but ask me if I care.

A/N:  I had to take a brief break from 'In the Heat of Battle' to write this piece.  The bullet hole challenge just wouldn't leave me alone, so here's my answer.  Okay, so it's not really humour, but how about some smut instead?

Heat's a funny thing sometimes...

A "What If" from the X5Revised series.

This is a plot bunny that came from our loving admin Shay. It is posted on the E2RH forum under "Plot Bunnies". This one intrigued me, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

"Details: The challenge - Max wakes up in hospital and is told that the past ten years of her life were all just a figment of her twisted imagination. Will she learn to cope or will the pressure and uncertainty of what is real and what is not be too much for her fragile mind to handle and end up shattering her completely?"

I haven't fully decided if there is going to be an actual pairing or ship. However, I am certain there will be at least one rape scene between White and Max (later in the story). Only because it's part of the story. I'm not terribly fond of writing scenes of that nature, but once in a while, an author must stretch beyond their comfort zone.

Anyway, thank you Shay for the idea and encouragement. This is technically non-betaed, but I have re-read it several times and edited myself as best I could. If there are any errors, it's all my fault.

Terminal City is on the verge of collapsing. The war has gone on far too long, and the toll has begun to show. The siege has kept them from leading the lives that Max so desired for her people, and she herself is at breaking point as a result. But, as it turns out, luck may be on their side after all. A political loophole is discovered, something that grants the denizens of Terminal City diplomatic immunity. The thing to remember about deals though, is that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Nothing is without a price, especially not in Post-Pulse America. Will Max and Alec be able to handle the situation as it needs to be, or will the conditions of this loophole force them to buckle under the pressure?

My submission for the Opening Lines Challenge. The prompt was "I was 12 going on 13 the first time I saw a dead human being.".

Summary - This is an AU I thought of regarding Dark Angel. The virus is gone, Max and Logan are married with a child and have moved to Hartford, Connecticut. Logan is now CEO of Cale Industries, and the first order of business was recalling the "hunter chip" in all the hoverdrones and destroying them. He is now an honest multi-millionaire that doesn't profit off the death of others, and he and Max still fight government corruption together as "Eyes Only". Max finally has the normal life she always wanted. Or does she?
